Captive Thirst by purplepawn Captive Thirst by purplepawn
Two Zebras from the Perth Zoo having an early morning drink. I was actually composing this image through the viewfinder before the Zebras came down to the water. I was initially just going to capture the reeds, lillypads and the water. Suddenly the Zebras came into view, so I got a couple of shots off. This being the best of the bunch.

RAW conversion done in C1. Bordering and framing done in Photoshop CS.

:) Good thing they felt like a drink of water hmm?
Beautifully done, I really love how the eyes of the zebras peek through the reed, and the effect of the pure white and black in the middle of such rich vibrant colors.. Just makes everything stand out... and the lines.. between the strpies of the zebras and the reed just draw your attention right to it. The reflections on the water, and the ripples are perfect bonuses aswell... very lucky and beautifully done shot!

Hmm, this is neat. What kind of setting did you use to get everything in focus? If I would have tried this, I would have only been able to focus the plants, animals, or ground or something... ?

Aperture was f/8 and shutter was 1/60 sec.

I was actually focusing on the water and reeds when the Zebras came down into the viewfinder. Autofocus kicked in, automatically focusing on the Zebras. Half-lucky shot :P

Hmm, too bad that I don't know what those things mean YET. I will, dammit!! :giggle: I'm learning...I have my trusty user guide to my camera, and I can figure out quite a bit on my own. I DO know what AF is, luckily. I remember, though, how amazed I was when I figured out how to do that! :lmao:

Zebra's are classy, like the penguins of Africa. This is a cool shot, the only thing giving away that it is a zoo shot is that bullrushes aren't native to Africa...

haha, can't believe you picked up on that... I had no idea what any of the plants were called, let alone how native they are. Nice work man :p
